DWS today announced the appointment of Matthew Abbott as Director of Coverage for EMEA Real Estate, further strengthening the firm’s client coverage, capital raising and investor relationship capabilities across its EMEA Real Estate platform.
Matthew joins as a Director based in London, bringing more than two decades of experience in the UK and European real estate industry. In his new role, Matthew will support institutional capital raising, business development and investor relations for the DWS Real Estate platform across EMEA. He will report to Lucy Williams, Head of Client Coverage for EMEA Real Estate, with a focus on co-mingled funds, separate accounts, and co-investments across core, value-add equity and real estate debt strategies.
Matthew was most recently Head of Client Development at L&G Asset Management, where he was responsible for managing relationships with institutional clients and intermediaries. He played a key role in business development initiatives across a range of real estate strategies, contributing to multiple successful fundraises across industrial, long-income and residential funds, while further strengthening investor engagement and market positioning.
Previously, Matthew spent eight years at both Mercer and Aon as a Real Estate Specialist, focusing on European fund research and advising institutional clients on real estate strategy and manager selection.
Matthew has held a range of industry positions throughout his career and is currently Chair of the Association of Real Estate Funds (AREF) Corporate Governance Committee. He has been active across all sectors and is known for being an early mover in advising institutional clients in relation to the UK private-rented residential sector in 2014 and the regulated affordable housing sector in 2019.
Lucy Williams, Head of Client Coverage for EMEA Real Estate at DWS, said: “Matthew’s appointment brings extensive experience across real estate client coverage, business development and investor engagement in UK and European markets to DWS. His strong relationships with institutional clients and consultants, alongside his broad industry perspective, particularly in the living sector, will be a valuable addition as we continue to scale our platform and deepen client engagement across EMEA.”
