DWS relies on ESG criteria when investing in emerging markets
The DWS Invest ESG Global Emerging Markets Equities invests in companies from the emerging economies of Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe that have very good ratings in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria.
The actively managed fund combines an economic analysis at country level with a fundamentally driven stock selection. The team led by fund manager Sean Taylor, Chief Investment Officer APAC & Head of Emerging Market Equities, is looking for high quality growth stocks, lesser known second-tier stocks and companies in a trend reversal situation. This gives the fund management the opportunity to achieve above-average performance in every market phase.
The selection of equities takes place in three steps: First of all, the macroeconomic conditions must be appropriate, with sustainability reforms in the respective countries being particularly decisive. The second step is an analysis of the individual securities. DWS’ local expertise enables the company to be close to its management, enabling it to assess how consistently a sustainable corporate policy is implemented. "The third aspect is the search for potential catalysts for a possible increase in value. We are interested to know what effects a stronger orientation towards sustainability criteria will have for a company in the future," emphasizes Sean Taylor.
DWS Invest ESG Global Emerging Markets Equities can generally invest in companies with different market capitalizations. The focus is on companies with a market capitalization of more than 10 billion US dollars. The mixture of companies with small and medium-sized market capitalization enables new trends to be picked up quickly. "We prefer to invest in market leaders with strong balance sheets, a high cash flow, good margins and an attractive dividend yield. This is not possible without a sustainable business model," explains fund manager Sean Taylor.
The DWS Invest ESG Global Emerging Markets Equities (ISIN: LU1984221009) was launched on 29 May 2019.
