Happy birthday, bull market!
8 years ago to the day, the S&P 500 closed at 676.5, which marked the lowest reading of the bear market which began in late 2007. Today, after 8 years and a performance of some 250%, our current bull market is the 2nd longest lasting of its kind of the past 5 decades, and recently managed to surpass the 1982-1987 period in terms of price increase. Only the 1990s saw a longer and higher rise in the U.S. stock market. Although one might get a little bit nervous after 8 years, many indicators, which typically signal the peak of the market, do not sound alarm right now. Hence, we would see a decent chance that we might celebrate another birthday next year.
