U.S. inflation rate back above 2%
Inflation rates around the globe are rising, mostly driven by higher energy prices: U.S. consumer price inflation was 2.1% year over year in December, above 2% again and almost closing the gap to core inflation excluding food and energy (2.2% yoy). Within core inflation, goods prices have been flat, and the increase was entirely driven by service prices.
